Past and Current posts
I did his postgraduate training in India before moving to the UK in 1999. I was appointed as a British Lung Foundation Research Fellow at UCL in 2007, where I spent two years researching the effects of preterm birth on lung growth and development. I was appointed as Consultant in Neonatal Medicine in Oxford in 2009 where I am a part of a team providing tertiary medical and surgical care at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. I am a senior lecturer at Oxford University (Hon) and Associate Postgraduate Dean in Oxford.
Global Work
I travel and teach extensively in South Asia – India and Sri Lanka (mainly).
India
I have undertaken several teaching programmes in newborn care and have continued my commitment to newborn care in India. I set up an international training fellowship in Oxford, which has trained 65 international fellows (80% from India) in neonatal medicine, paediatric intensive care medicine and general paediatrics. I was awarded the Life Time Achievement Award in 2015 by the largest body of neonatologists for my work in this field.
Sri Lanka
I led a team of UK specialists to help set up the Sri Lankan Neonatal Transport Project from 2012 onwards and am currently the Patron of the Neonatal Transport Forum of Sri Lanka. I led to the establishment of a formal system of neonatal transport in Sri Lanka and included teaching and training of over 750 nurses and doctors in this area. This project has recently won the BMJ South Asia Awards (2017) for innovation. The President of Sri Lanka awarded the prestigious fellowship of the Royal College of Paediatricians of Sri Lanka.
